How to shop consciously

How to shop consciously

Having had to dress three children over the past few years, I've developed a bit of a hitlist of criteria that I look for when I'm buying their outfits. I've found that these little things make all the difference, so I thought I'd share them in the hope that it makes your shopping experience easier!

Here are a few things I always check to make sure that clothes will actually last.

Natural fibres - I mostly use cotton jersey which is made up of 95% cotton and 5% elastane. Natural enough to be soft and gentle to skin, with enough stretch to keep up with all their movements.

Generous sizing - to make sure there's growing room.

Tidy seams - with all the layers of fabric stitched as they should be.

Soft waistbands - little tummies need comfort.

Value for money - a handmade piece might cost more upfront but it will last season after season.

As my children have got older, it's become more difficult to convince them to wear handmade clothing, especially as the desire for certain brands begins to creep in. But I will always believe in clothing that's made to be outgrown - not thrown out.
